A new process for the production of bioethanol from paper mill sludge (PMS) is described in this work. PMS biomass feedstock was processed via the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) with and without accelerants. The enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation were first evaluated, and the energy demand was 2.2 MJ/L of produced ethanol.
2021/2/1/ · The rejects waste stream used in this study was obtained from a paper mill located in the Gauteng province of South Africa, utilising recycled fibre as feedstock. Rejects are primarily produced as a sludge from the various processing activities (pulping, screening, etc.) that occur before the paper machine and contain significant amounts of
2020/2/1/ · Pulp and paper industry is swiftly budding to fulfill industrial needs and with the growth of this industry, a large amount of waste has also generated which includes biological sludge generated from the wood digestion process, fly ash accumulation and lime mud produced in chemical reagent recovery circuit.

2012/5/15/ · This work examined the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) process for the biological conversion of pulp & paper sludge (PPS) and monosodium glutamate waste liquor (MGWL) into ethanol using Saccharomyces cerevisiae CICC 1001 in batch condition. At the SSF conditions of sterilization, pH 6.0, 6% TS (total solid), and
avoided and an energy stream can be produced to be used at the mill or sold. This study investigated the conversion of PS into ethanol and how the nature of the sludge influenced a high solid loading fermentation process. Paper sludge samples from various paper and pulp mills in South Africa were collected and characterized into categories
2024/5/8/ · A pioneering solution has been developed to convert cellulose fibre-rich waste from pulp and paper mill operations into ethanol using a specialised fermentation process. Ethanol is a versatile starting material that finds diverse application in the production of industrial chemicals, bio-based plastics and sustainable aviation fuel.
Keywords Papermillsludges.Ethanol.SSF.SSCF.Bioconversion Introduction The pulp and paper industry generates 4–5 million tons of sludges per year in the US [1].
The wastes from pulp and paper mills are both of organic and inorganic types. Most of the biomass generated from pulp and paper mills is organic residues. Black liquor consists of 展开
2015/11/9/ · Finding innovative solutions to manage waste and to expand the production of biofuels are some of the current challenges. Pulp and paper sectors, including recycled paper mills, produce a large amount of solid wastes, such as wastewater sludge containing non-recyclable short fibres. This study aimed to: (1) characterize recycled paper sludge;
2024/4/19/ · Paper sludge (PS) from paper mills has a significant potential for bioethanol production. In this study, waste-paper-containing PS is used as the raw material for bioethanol production because the annual waste paper utilization rate has increased globally. Although PS does not require delignification, the antiseptics and deinking agents in waste
2021/5/20/ · Paper mill sludge (PS), a solid waste from pulp and paper industry, was investigated as a feedstock for acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) production by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation
